Ravina joined Michigan Community Resources in 2023. As Senior Program Manager on the Resource Navigation team, she joins a team that works directly with clients through funded partnerships such as the Kresge Foundation's KIP:D+ grant program, Detroit Regional Chamber's NeighborHUB grant program, and other cohort experiences MCR facilitates. Learn a bit more about her below.

WHAT'S YOUR BACKGROUND?

RAVINA: I’ve been in the nonprofit sector for the better part of eight years now. Having a Masters degree in social sciences and further education in project management, I was always drawn to initiatives that create access and uplift equity-deserving communities.

Starting my journey at a community heart hospital for low-income patients in Karachi, Pakistan, I quickly learned the need to adapt programs to community needs and help organizations connect to resources that help them achieve their goals.

A few years ago, I moved to Canada where I developed strategy and programs for immigrant and refugee mental health at Kids Help Phone – a national mental health support service for young people in Canada.

I’m thrilled to be joining the MCR community where I get to continue my commitment to the non-profit sector by playing a minor role in supporting the mighty dreams of community organizations and leaders in southeast Michigan.

WHAT DREW YOU TO MCR'S MISSION?

RAVINA: As someone who values and enjoys community-driven initiatives, what stood out for me most about MCR was its focus on fostering meaningful connections and our work being rooted in communities we work with.

Another appealing factor was the transparency of the organization in acknowledging the challenges that nonprofit organizations experience. I appreciate how MCR works proactively toward changing the way the nonprofit sector operates to achieve stronger and more sustainable organizations, leaders, and networks.

WHAT ARE YOU HAPPIEST DOING?

RAVINA: I’m happiest when I am continuously learning and growing as a person. For me, learning is not strictly associated with only academic pursuits.

Having made two international moves over the last decade and traveled to various places, I find this learning by immersing in different cultures, engaging with diverse communities, having meaningful conversations, and of course being open to whatever life has to offer.
